Chuck has become a running joke. More’s the pity. He started his work in the Senate as the man who asked all of the right questions. He will leave as an old man who was a fool who constantly ran into rabbit holes.

I have been working on farm policy as an engaged citizen since my first trip to Washington DC in 1985. Over the years I have worked with the Senator and his staff on the farm bill that is supposed to happen every 5 years. The Senator used to work in a bipartisan way to develop farm policy. He no longer works for the people - instead, as you stated he has put party first. I’m sad and angered.

Thanks, Barry. Good reminder I have not fired off an email lately to Chuck. The usual long-winded, likely staff- crafted, obfuscations and puffery always ensue in the replies I get from him ( or his staffers) , but, yeah, time again to lay it out and hit SEND.

True enough, but they do do keep track of what the mail is saying and it can cause him to at least pause and think twice before launching the next partisan car wreck.

Depressing for sure. At least in every occasion I can recall in the past, I have had a reply ( for what it’s worth) from both the offices of Chuck and Joni whenever I’ve written something to them, but try getting anything from Ashley Hinson. THERE’S an exercise in pointlessness. 🙄

As Denise O'Brien wrote, we remember a time when the Senator and his staff, his very good staff, were welcoming to differing ideas, understood the value of receiving input from those not Republican, or from Iowans who might not be as conservative as the Senator, and state offices almost eagerly received feedback from Iowans. I understand when I receive form letters from our federal delegation; I cannot agree with using my constituent letters as a forum to criticize all Democrats at every chance. The Senator's old staff would not have allowed that, I believe.
