There’s a difference between today’s politicians and the rest of us. They have no shame. They value re-election above all else, including their own integrity. How Governor Reynolds can go from saying “Trump can’t win” to now kissing his ring is beyond the ability of normal people to understand. How Nikki Haley can rip Trump for months on end and now endorse him is beyond belief. What do they think when they look themselves in the mirror in the morning? I guess if that mirror is in Terrace Hill, they’ll say and do anything to stay there regardless of the hypocrite staring back at them in that mirror.

True. The corruption of those you mention, like Trump’s, is bottomless. Ther is no concept of public service in what they do at all.

Attacking our judicial system and undermining our election system may not look like a winning formula in 2026. Both our Senators know better than to go down the MAGA hole. They will not emerge better for it, and neither will Iowa. We must find and cultivate their replacements, with smart and respectful candidates.

That is something Rs do much better than Ds, Josiah - finding and preparing their bench. You are right. Ds need to a much better job on that front. The future depends on it.

I can’t wait to see what spin the parties put on resolution of Hunter Biden’s criminal case. When he’s convicted will there be outcries that it was all rigged? Or that the sentence is too lenient.

They’ll be unhappy about something. That’s their stock in trade

Barry- If this conviction of Trump were overturned by NY’s appeals process, will our Senators recall that the system is “rigged and corrupt”? Or will they say it’s all thanks to some judges appointed by the right-thinking politician? This whole blending of legislative and judicial branches is very harmful, and both parties engage in it at times.

I agree. Very harmful. They have corrupted the judiciary along with everything else. They’ll act as if every ruling that goes his way is obviously what the law requires (which may be the case,?8’ some circumstances, but not many) and otherwise it will be full time whining and lying.

I do believe you covered the situation quite well! Unfortunately, the Democrats have such a poor candidate with much, to much baggage. The business of Israel and what has happened in Gaza with our support by Biden, will keep many independent voters from voting at all! A tight race could lose us our Democracy! The set up Obama put in place to support his VP for President, in spite of Biden being rejected by the paerty more than once previously, may very well do us in. Biden's ability to chew gum and walk at the same time hints at his age is an issue! Can the Democrats pull this off? It looks like a roll of the dice to me!

Trump is virtually the same age and presents incoherence daily. Some would argue - citing his behaviors as evidence - that he is actually mentally impaired.

So I’m not sure why age or mental fitness should be an issue at all for Biden who is much more on his game. He fights daily to overcome a life ling stutter, which causes him to speak more slowly and deliberately, but he serves up a minuscule fraction of the servings of word salads that Trump does.

While Trump is busy compiling a record that would make a comic book villain envious, Biden’s record on most things has been spectacularly successful, Yet he gets no credit for it.

I did not support Biden any of the previous times he ran for the Democratic presidential nomination because I didn’t think he was a very good campaigner and didn’t do all that well connecting with voters.

I am fully behind him today.

His record as President is a series of historic high water marks of success on many issues. I believe he deserves and has clearly earned re-election - especially when he is running against a convicted felon who has told us openly he will trash the Constitution and be a dictator. And has a record of multiple catastrophes from his own previous term.

The Israel/Gaza issue is a tough one, but anyone who thinks ending the carnage there is more likely under Trump than Biden is mistaken, in my view. Trump will give Israel whatever it wants for as long as it wants, no matter what, no questions asked.

Biden is respecting our important, vital and historic alliance with Israel, but is also at least trying to rein them in.

We rarely get a perfect candidate in presidential elections and we don’t have one in this election. But Biden is miles ahead of Trump in worthiness and fitness for the presidency.

A match up of records from their presidential terms, and their plans for the future should be “game over” for Trump. And that’s without even mentioning his one man crime wave.

Steve- I think independents who value our election system and our courts, even slightly, will back Biden. The other choice is so obviously disastrous. The R party is putting a vile human being forth and telling us they trust him with the ability to wipe out mankind by pushing buttons. We who are non-party most of the time must encourage voters to think hard, not ignore the situation.

Why not run, when your re-election is virtually guaranteed?

I am not sure who you are talking about - Trump, Ernst , or Biden?

I was talking about Ernst. Perhaps I am being too cynical. A state-wide election could put a Democrat in her seat.

2026 is a long, long time away. Hard to say that far away. Republicans always have an edge in Iowa until they don’t and by 2026, voters could be so sick of Trump’s enablers
