Thanks, Barry. I am trying to contact my representatives just about daily, because it is one thing I can do. This information is so helpful in how to effectively do that. I think we are in a fight for our lives and that we need everyone who believes that, actively participating. Thanks for your help!

An excellent phone app is 5 Calls which provides a script on a number of issues when placing a call to staffers. You provide your zip code and the app then gives you your rep’s and senators’ contact info. I suggest using the script as something to vamp off of rather than simply reading it aloud.

One other thing: I strongly suggest that legacy media need to attend and then report on this imperious attitude Grassley has displayed at these “town halls.” He’s obviously taken his cue from Trump regarding behavior towards challenging questions.

As far as I know, he doesn’t talk to reporters.

Yeah, he probably talks to Fox, but they ain’t reporters.

Does Grassley insult reporters like Trump does?

You are so right they are our employees. This past week people in the western part of the 3rd District have been showing up at Zach Nunn’s mobile staff meetings to politely ask for him to hold a public town hall meeting. He is in his second term and has had zero public meetings. We see evidence of his presence in our towns after he has left. The meetings he is attending are invitation only. He also serves on the Ag Committee and sends out emails about the wonderful job he’s doing for farmers. Ha!

Barry, thanks again for opening the political curtains. Yesterday, I responded to a friend who wrote that 50 calls would not impact our federal delegation by offering my quantitative analysis of state and federal constituent ratios.

Let me apply those numbers based on my history of working in state govt.:

In legislative communications, scale matters significantly. When 20 contacts could catch the attention of a state legislative office serving 60,000 constituents, we can extrapolate proportionally: roughly 160-200 contacts would have similar weight with a House member (500,000 constituents), while 800-1,000 would matter to a Senator (3 million constituents).

This math illustrates why 150 calls can catch their attention, if not make a difference. If an office typically handles 50 calls daily, receiving 150+ on a single issue signals strong constituent concern. At 1,500 calls per day on hot issues, coordinated constituent action becomes even more crucial to stand out.

It is reported that some federal elected officials have received over 1500 calls this week.

Remember: Most constituents never contact their representatives, so each person who does speaks for many silent others.

It’s great advice for Iowa but here in PA we have two Senators who are AWOL.
