Quietly I wait for the call, "The emperor has no clothes!" When a child suddenly convinces people that what they were "seeing" was simply nothing at all!

They have been fed a steady diet of lies for years so snapping them back to reality isn’t going to be easy. A good, solid drubbing in the next few elections may be just what the doctor ordered, however.

Aside from having a lucrative gig, especially if they can parlay their current gig into some bigger gig later ( in or out of politics) , and maybe getting a personal high from their position of real or imagined power, I honestly believe they are afraid of harassment and even violent retribution by some of the whack jobs in their party if they actually speak out. Fear of personal safety is a pretty darn big motivator. Of course, it could just be they lack scruples and don’t give a shit. There IS that.

If they fear doing their jobs because they fear tge people who vote for them they need to get new jobs, and the party needs to get new leaders. Serving in public office is hard and often uncomfortable. They should have known that when they ran for the office. And bullies never change their game because of compliance by their victims.
