Anyone who reads this and continues to support the Republican agenda is beyond rationality. Terrific column!!!

Lawmakers who refuse to legislate gun laws should have to go to schools and experience the safety drills that teachers and kids have to go through and listen to the questions kids ask their teachers about what would happen if someone showed up to the school with a gun.

As with the parable of the Scorpion and the Frog, it’s in their nature.

"There’s not a lot in any of that to benefit Iowa."

This applies to so much of what the Republicans do, try to do or want to do. You can replace "Iowa" with "Iowans" or with "Americans" and the statement still holds true.

As far as I can tell, the goal shared by the Iowa legislature and governor Reynolds is to find ways to punish people who are not like them or to their liking.

Forget about equality, diversity and inclusion - it's easier to erect barriers and make them feel so unwelcome that they'll go to some other (hopefully, "woke") state.

And, in case of some local initiative to counteract this (higher minimum wage, masking, trans kids, gun control, etc.), the state will joyfully pass a law taking away local control from Iowa's counties, municipalities, school districts, etc.

Thanks Barry. They are all stuck in a political time loop, where they do not feel politically vulnerable. On a moral sense, I do not know what they are thinking or who they are being influenced by; they can easily find arguments, false as they may be, to support their gross negligence to everything from guns to threats on our democracy.
