Thanks for this story, Barry. I enjoyed reading about your experiences with the lighting ceremony for the National Christmas Tree. It is a very special event. The fact that the right tried to use this time of celebration as a way to keep us all angry at one another still mystifies me. Reading your story I thought about a meme I read at the time that said "There is no war on Christmas. For heaven's sake - Look Around!".
It is quite telling, I think, that they choose to weaponize Christmas rather than celebrate and observe it. Thanks for your comment, and for reading my column.
